Crooked Crews & Cracked Foundations
Our Lake House Build Went Wrong — We’re Fighting Back
How It All Started
We poured our savings into building a lake home—the dream was peace.
What we got? Cracks in walls, gaps in the doors, ghost lighting, buckling floors, and a builder who vanished like drywall dust.
This isn’t just a rant. It’s a wake-up call for every family who’s about to hand over their trust to a contractor.
“This wasn’t just poor work. It was betrayal, camouflaged as construction.”

What Went Wrong
- ❌ Doors wouldn’t close properly
- ❌ Shelving was wired when we paid for wood
- ❌ Gutters warped and poured water back toward the foundation
- ❌ Grilling deck was sloped the wrong way
- ❌ Cabinets were installed in the wrong rooms
- ❌ Fire pit built in the wrong location
- ❌ Warranty voided on multiple items due to late installs
- ❌ Builder stopped communicating when we asked questions
“They said things like ‘That’s normal settling’ while my house fell apart in front of me.”
Why I Spoke Up
What compelled me to build “Crooked Crews and Cracked Foundations” was the sickening silence I hit every time I reached out for answers.
The builder made promises. The warranty company danced around them. And I was stuck documenting it all — photo by photo, excuse by excuse.
So I created this space:
- To document our truth
- To warn other families
- And to give a voice to anyone who’s ever been screwed over by a shady builder
This site isn’t just therapy—it’s a warning.
You’ll find evidence, real stories, and tools to protect yourself if you’re building or renovating. We may have been the victims, but we’re not staying silent.
If you’re going through it too, start here.
Welcome to ‘My Home Build Story,’ the heart and soul of my blog. This is where I peel back the layers to offer you the kind of honest insights I wish I’d had when I first started this journey. After building three homes, I can tell you that each project brought its unique set of surprises and lessons, and that’s why I’m here – to share them with you, unfiltered.
What compelled me to start ‘My Home Build Story’ was a dire need for straightforward, honest reviews in an industry that often hides behind polished brochures and fancy promos. I realized how daunting and overwhelming it can be to step into the world of home construction or remodeling without a trustworthy guide to point out the red flags and share real-life comparisons.
Through detailed reviews and personal stories, I want to help you spot potential pitfalls early, find contractors worthy of your trust, and ultimately, make informed decisions that save you grief and money. Whether you’re buying, building, or remodeling, knowing what to look out for can make all the difference.
This space is also a platform for comparing everything from building materials to design choices. It’s about dissecting what works and what doesn’t based on true events and facts. By doing so, I hope to arm you with the knowledge to navigate your own home building or remodeling adventure with confidence.
As we transition into ‘Meet Tammy,’ I’d like for you to get to know the person behind the reviews – me. I’ll share how my passions and experiences have shaped my perspective on home building and more. So, let’s get to know each other beyond bricks and blueprints!
